FTRD Device Placement

Minimally Invasive Resection for Gastrointestinal Lesions at GastroExperts

FTRD device placement, offered at GastroExperts, is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that utilizes the innovative FTRD (Full-Thickness Resection Device) system by Ovesco to remove lesions within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This approach allows for safe and effective resection of abnormalities while minimizing incisions and recovery time.

How FTRD Device Placement Works at GastroExperts

Endoscopic access

A highly skilled gastroenterologist inserts a flexible endoscope equipped with a camera and the FTRD device into the mouth or rectum (depending on the location of the lesion) to reach the target area within the GI tract.

FTRD device positioning

The endoscope maneuvers and positions the FTRD device around the base of the lesion.

Endoscopic closure

In some cases, the base of the resected area might be further secured with additional clips or stitches placed endoscopically.

Lesion visualization and assessment

The endoscope provides a magnified view of the lesion, allowing the gastroenterologist to precisely evaluate its size, location, and suitability for FTRD placement.

Tissue closure and resection

The FTRD device deploys a special clip and snare to close the tissue above the lesion. This ensures minimal blood flow and a sealed environment before the lesion is resected using a built-in cutting mechanism. The resected tissue is retrieved through the endoscope.

Endoscope withdrawal:

The endoscope and FTRD device are carefully withdrawn once the procedure is complete.

Applications of FTRD Device Placement at GastroExperts

Colonic polyp removal

FTRD is particularly suitable for removing larger or complex colonic polyps that might be difficult to resect with conventional endoscopic techniques.

Duodenal lesion resection

The FTRD gastroduodenal system, a specialized variation, allows for safe endoscopic resection of lesions in the upper part of the small intestine (duodenum).

Gastric lesion resection

FTRD can be used to remove certain types of benign growths or tumors in the stomach.

Benefits of FTRD Device Placement at GastroExperts

1

Minimally invasive

:FTRD placement avoids the need for traditional open surgery, resulting in faster recovery and reduced discomfort.

01

2

Effective resection

The FTRD system facilitates complete removal of targeted lesions with minimal risk of bleeding.

02

3

Improved safety

The device's design ensures minimal thermal injury to surrounding tissues and blood vessel closure before resection.

03

4

Early diagnosis and treatment

FTRD allows for potentially precancerous lesions to be identified and removed during a colonoscopy, promoting early intervention.

Who is a Candidate for FTRD Device Placement?

The suitability for FTRD placement depends on the specific characteristics of the lesion, its location within the GI tract, and your overall health. Your gastroenterologist at GastroExperts will evaluate comprehensively to determine if FTRD is the most appropriate approach for you.

FAQs

Q&A for Patients

Similar to other colonoscopy procedures, FTRD placement might require bowel preparation medications and fasting beforehand. Your gastroenterologist will provide detailed instructions to prepare for the procedure.

The procedure is typically performed under sedation, so you won't feel pain during it. The gastroenterologist will navigate the endoscope and utilize the FTRD device to resect the lesion.

You will be monitored for a short period after the procedure. Recovery is typically quicker than traditional surgery, and depending on the complexity of the resection, you might be able to go home the same day.

While generally safe, any endoscopic procedure carries potential risks, such as bleeding or infection. There's also a small chance of perforation (a tear in the GI tract wall). Your gastroenterologist will discuss these risks thoroughly before the procedure.
